Pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans for dust extraction

Centrifugal fans for a better environment and better health

One of our customers, a specialised installer of suction installations for various industries, received a request from a producer of pesticides, seeds and other innovative solutions. Because the production of these seeds and pesticides was causing vast quantities of dust and hazardous vapours, there was a pressing need for a high-quality suction installation. The dust was particularly explosive: With dust class St1 and a Kst value of 109 bar m/s, it had a potential explosion pressure of 7.4 bar. Slingerland set out to find a bespoke solution and found it, as is often the case, in pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans.

We used these pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans to compose a bespoke solution in various diameters. We will briefly clarify the 2 largest ones:

  • We opted for 2 centrifugal fans with a unit size of 1120, a capacity of 52750 m3/h and a pressure of 4200 pascal. These were fitted with a four-pole 90 kW motor of the brand WEG.
  • We integrated 1 centrifugal fan with a unit size of 1250. This centrifugal fan had a capacity of 64250 m³/h, with a pressure of 5200 pascal. This type was fitted with a four-pole 132 kW motor, once again of the brand WEG.

All centrifugal fans were executed with pressure surge-resistance up to 0.7 bar. The casings were fitted with strengthening ribs and adjusted plate thickness and the fan casings were fully welded. Finally, all these industrial fans were fitted with inspection hatches, condensate drainage and NBR shaft seals.
