Pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans for dust extraction

Optimise dust extraction at your company with high-quality centrifugal fans, such as those by Slingerland. Sometimes this is very much needed, as was the case in the situation below. Read all about how we made a different with our pressure surge-resistant fans for a large seed producer here.

Centrifugal fans for a better environment and better health

One of our customers, a specialised installer of suction installations for various industries, received a request from a producer of pesticides, seeds and other innovative solutions. Because the production of these seeds and pesticides was causing vast quantities of dust and hazardous vapours, there was a pressing need for a high-quality suction installation. The dust was particularly explosive: With dust class St1 and a Kst value of 109 bar m/s, it had a potential explosion pressure of 7.4 bar. Slingerland set out to find a bespoke solution and found it, as is often the case, in pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans.

Various versions of pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans.

We used these pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans to compose a bespoke solution in various diameters. We will briefly clarify the 2 largest ones:

  • We opted for 2 centrifugal fans with a unit size of 1120, a capacity of 52750 m3/h and a pressure of 4200 pascal. These were fitted with a four-pole 90 kW motor of the brand WEG.
  • We integrated 1 centrifugal fan with a unit size of 1250. This centrifugal fan had a capacity of 64250 m³/h, with a pressure of 5200 pascal. This type was fitted with a four-pole 132 kW motor, once again of the brand WEG.

All centrifugal fans were executed with pressure surge-resistance up to 0.7 bar. The casings were fitted with strengthening ribs and adjusted plate thickness and the fan casings were fully welded. Finally, all these industrial fans were fitted with inspection hatches, condensate drainage and NBR shaft seals.

Axial fans for freezing tunnel in Mexico

With no less than 96 large axial fans, we recently contributed to the construction of a pig slaughterhouse in Mexico. More specifically, it involved a freezing tunnel where carcasses would be stored. Our customer was looking for a bespoke solution for their construction and found it in the axial industrial fans by Slingerland. Read all about it below.

Axial fans for the slaughterhouse industry

Our axial fans recently proved to be the ideal solution for an important project. Our client, one of the world’s largest systems suppliers for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industry won a project in Mexico. The project? Build a large pig slaughterhouse including axial fans for a  freezing tunnel to freeze carcasses.

The challenge was to find large axial fans that could be wall mounted. After all, they would pull the air over a cooler block and blow it into the freezing tunnel with no less than 96 fans.

Axial fan casings assembled in our own workshop

Eventually, we found the perfect solution for this client which we completely assembled in-house. A metalworking company specialised in the flange rolling of casings up to 2400 mm in diameter produced axial fan casings on our specific request.

Composition of the axial fans in question

These axial fan casings had a thickness of 4 mm, an internal diameter of 800 mm and a length of 300 mm. The motor mount was entirely welded onto the casing and had a thickness of 6 mm. Everything consisted of standard steel that was hot-dip galvanised afterwards.

The fan casing was fitted with an inlet cone on one side and a flat flange on the other. Since all fixing materials were also hot-dip galvanised, the axial industrial fans were suitable for temperatures between -30°C and + 40°C.

The impeller of the axial fan was made of 3 profiled impeller blades of PAG and fully balanced according to G6.3. The impeller hub consisted of untreated cast aluminium and was fitted with a shaft hole of Ø28H7.

The motor of these hot-dip galvanised axial fans was a custom design as well. These axial industrial fans were fitted with a four-pole 4.5 kW motor of the brand WEG. This was a 3x460V 60Hz motor fitted with a B3 terminal box IP55 and insulation class F bearings.

The motor of these axial fans featured idle heating, PTC sensors for each phase and was resistant to the aforementioned operating temperatures. Finally, it boasted a Labyrinth Taconite shaft seal (for a temperature of -30°C), with Aeroshell 22/Mobil Polyrex EM low-temperature grease.

24X galvanised axial fans for a fishing vessel

Our axial industrial fans recently stole the show. Our client, one of the worlds largest systems suppliers for the food, drink and pharmaceutical industry won a project to fit cooling to a crab trawler and decided to ask Slingerland for a helping hand!

Hot-dip galvanised axial fans for optimal cooling

Our axial fans enabled us to deliver a significant contribution to the project. In many countries, fish and crab are some of the main sources of protein. To secure these important sources of food, a huge fleet of crab trawlers is hard at work out in various oceans. After the crab caught is hauled onto these trailers, it needs to be processed and frozen as soon as possible. As a result, proper cooling is essential, and our hot-dip galvanised axial fans play a major role in this.

Our client was on the lookout for axial fans suitable for operating temperatures between -33 °C to +5 °C for no fewer than three crab trawlers. It goes without saying that these industrial fans needed to be able to cope with the aggressive sea climate and be able to pass the necessary maritime inspections. With that in mind, we rolled up our sleeves!

Looking for custom axial ventilators for your project? We’ll help you out!

In the end, Slingerland was able to deliver exactly what our client was looking for. The axial fan casings in question were manufactured to our exact instructions with a panel thickness of 3 mm, an internal diameter of 500 mm and a height of 200 mm. The motor base for the axial fans was fully welded to the casing, with a thickness of 6 mm, and the complete fan casing unit was (fully) hot-dip galvanised.

In addition, a sheet steel inlet cone was fitted to one side of the fan, while a flat flange with a hole pattern was fitted to the other side. The fan impeller was made out of five profiled PAGI impeller blades, ensuring high efficiency and low noise. The hub was manufactured out of cast aluminium and the impeller was fully balanced according to G6.3. All fasteners were made of stainless steel, and our fans eventually proved suitable for temperatures ranging from -40 °C up to +40 °C.

Our industrial axial ventilators are suitable for all environments, including maritime

A special finish was required for the motor, as it needed to be suitable for continuous operation at -33 °C in a maritime environment. As such, we fitted our axial fans with a four-pole 2.2 kW motor by leading manufacturer WEG. The motor in question was a 3 x 460 V /60 Hz-IP55 version, suitable for environmental temperatures ranging from -40 °C up to + 45 °C. Finally, the motor came with additional options such as a PTC thermistor per phase, anti-condensation heating, a labyrinth seal, shaft and fastener materials made of Grade 316 stainless steel, an aluminium cooling fan, special lubricant and a C5 painting plan.

Of course, the necessary maritime inspections, such as RMRS and BV, were also arranged. We subsequently assembled the axial fans in-house and tested them extensively. The end result? All the pieces fell into just the right place.

Complete your project with our axial or other industrial fans

Are hot-dip galvanised axial fans the exact solution that your business is looking for? Or have you got a specific project in mind for which you need another type of industrial fan? We’d be happy to sit down to personally run you through the options without obligation! Feel free to contact us any time for more information.

Stainless steel centrifugal ventilators for conveyor belt in the mushroom industry

Our stainless steel industrial centrifugal fans have recently been put to good use at a mushroom sector company with ambitions to fully commit to circular agriculture and sustainable processes. Slingerland held extensive consultations with the client in question to arrive at the perfect final solution. Continue reading to find out all about it.

Stainless steel centrifugal ventilators to contribute to circular agriculture

Slingerland’s stainless steel centrifugal fans have recently been put to good use to contribute to circular agriculture in the mushroom supply chain. Our client, already one of the most high-tech mushroom growers in the world, had the ambition to modernise its processes even further. Their aim is to grow mushrooms in a more environmentally conscious way, and they’re doing so by finding high-quality applications for the residual flow of the growing process via mushroom compost, in addition to generating their own energy. To achieve that ambition, the company started building a biomass plant and mushroom compost drying facility, at which our industrial fans play a crucial role.

Our centrifugal fans were used to build a mushroom compost drying facility

At this mushroom compost drying facility, our stainless steel centrifugal ventilators are used to work alongside a conveyor belt dryer. During this process, the mushroom compost is dried before being turned into pellets. These pellets can then be used as a sustainable substitute for artificial fertiliser, which completes the cycle in a really neat way! The energy for the drying facility is provided by a biomass plant that supplies heat and electricity generated from regional wood cuttings obtained from sustainable woodland management.

Which stainless steel centrifugal ventilators did we use exactly?

For this project, Slingerland supplied eight stainless steel centrifugal ventilators, each with a capacity of 150,000 m3/h at 1200 Pa at 60°C. These industrial fans come equipped with a 110kW six-pole WEG motor. The parts that come into contact with the airflow are made of grade 304 stainless steel, and the motor bracket, which is made of normal steel, has a special coating. The fans are manufactured to ATEX standard with EX inlet cones suitable for use in Zone 22.

The Class III stainless steel impeller is fitted with backwards-curved blades, including counter blades on the rear side to create negative pressure at the shaft passage and to reduce dust build-up at the shaft seal. In addition, these stainless steel centrifugal fans are fitted with a copper-ring shaft seal suitable for ATEX situations and resistant against high temperatures. The fans are also equipped with aluminium cooling fans for extra motor cooling.

Finally, two inspection hatches are fitted to the fan casing to allow for regular inspection and cleaning. An IFM EX speed sensor has also been fitted to provide extra protection against overspeed. The fan casing is manufactured in three sections for easier transport and is simple to maintain. An FAT test was performed upon delivery, including a running test at maximum RPM. We delivered the fans with balancing reports, material certificates, coating certificates and a sensor function test.

Stainless steel centrifugal fans for European pet food company

An industrial fan made from 304 stainless steel is the ideal solution if you’re struggling with poor extraction, especially in humid environments with higher temperatures. We have all kinds of fans on our range at Slingerland. Read here how we helped a Dutch company optimise its production process with industrial stainless steel fans.

Who are industrial stainless steel centrifugal fans suitable for?

304 stainless steel centrifugal fans are mainly used in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries and, as is the case here, the food industry. For example, one of our customers – an industrial processes service provision company from Eindhoven – recently received a request from a client. This innovative, leading European pet food company produces branded products for pets and private-label products for retailers. They wanted a solution for their steam tunnel extraction in the production process. Our customer came to us with this request, and together we looked for a suitable solution, which turned out to be our industrial stainless steel fan.

When to choose a stainless steel centrifugal fan instead of a plastic one?

What problem does this industrial stainless steel fan need to resolve, exactly? To prepare the pet food – specifically for dogs in this case – ground offal is cooked in steam tunnels. Highly contaminated steam vapours (approx. 90°C), which also contain fats, are released during this process, and therefore cannot be easily extracted. Our customer initially enquired about plastic fans, but we recommended they should opt for industrial stainless steel fans because of the higher temperatures and the humidity levels in the room.

We have two different types of stainless steel centrifugal fans

Once the decision had been made for industrial stainless steel fans, our customer installed extraction hoods above the pet food company’s steam tunnels. The vapours then had to be extracted before they could be removed by the hoods. We provided two different types of fans for this – supplying 3x BPR 352C with a 0.25kW WEG motor and 3x BPR 632C with a 1.50kW WEG motor. As you can see, Slingerland is all about versatility!

Waaruit bestaat een industriële centrifugaal ventilator?

Our centrifugal fans are manufactured entirely from 304 stainless steel and include:

  • an inspection hatch;
  • condensation drainage;
  • an aluminium cooling impeller for the 90°C

We’re also supplying:

  • a set of vibration dampers;
  • flexible connections for the inlet and outlet sides;
  • a set of stainless steel mounting profiles.

These industrial centrifugal fans are usually installed in a fairly dirty environment, so we provide an additional coating on the motors. In our warehouse, we also fit an isolating switch on the fans, including connection for the motors with an EMC cable and fittings. Delivered ready to plug in!

We’d be happy to see what our stainless steel centrifugal fans can do for your business!

Centrifugal fans for extraction in a blasting and conservation hall

Need to find the best fan for extraction in a blasting and conservation hall? You’re in the right place with Slingerland! Read here how we helped a manufacturer of blasting and spraying booths with the ideal medium-pressure centrifugal fans, so their customer could carry out their work with ideal air management.

Our industrial fans regulate the air management exactly according to your wishes

We make a difference every day at Slingerland, with top-quality industrial fans. In this case study, a leading company in the Netherlands, which specialises in spraying XL products in mega coating halls, was looking for an all-in solution for blasting and spraying products. Products of this size are usually blasted and sprayed in separate halls, which of course means a lot of time is taken up with transportation.

The company in question made an enquiry to our client – a manufacturer of blasting and spraying booths, powder coating installations and pre-processing lines – who built a fantastic installation, exactly in accordance with their customer’s requirements. They used Slingerland’s efficient medium-pressure fans, designed specifically for industry, so that the entire air management system functions exactly as required.

Which fans are suitable for air extraction in a blasting hall?

This company’s challenge was to choose the right industrial fans, not just with the desired flow rate and pressure, but which were also explosion-proof. They also needed to be suitable for outdoor use.

The solution? Type TR 1121 directly-driven centrifugal fans. These high-pressure centrifugal fans have an extra external coating, which makes them 100% weatherproof. We’ve also added an extra layer to the centrifugal fans’ WEG motors, so they’re the ideal fans for extraction in a blasting hall!

These medium-pressure fans can each extract air at 32,000 m3/h, with a static pressure capacity of 4110 pascals at 15°C. With a power consumption of 47.6kW, we were therefore able to select a fan with 83.8% efficiency and a very low noise level. We ticked all the boxes one by one, resulting in a happy customer!

What kind of centrifugal fans do you need to optimise your operation? We can help you find out!

Are you also experiencing problems with the air management in your company, and you’d like to meet us with no obligation to see what we can do for your business process? Plastic fans extract fumes at plastic bottle recycling plant

Opting for the right plastic centrifugal fan can make all the difference to your plant’s operations. And that’s why one of our customers – the maintenance provider of a leading plastic (polyethylene) bottle recycling plant in the Netherlands that processes up to 75,000 tonnes a year – recently approached us with an extraction-related challenge. The company is responsible for cleaning and recycling plastic bottles. However, due to the rigorous nature of cleaning these products require, this type of process usually leaches a significant amount of caustic, sodium hydroxide fumes. Naturally, a solution had to be found.

Looking to prevent damage by efficiently extracting caustic fumes? Discover our plastic fans

Acids and bases have what is known as a corrosive effect, i.e. they damage material surfaces. That’s why acids and bases are also frequently used to clean dirt from surfaces. In this case, they are used to clean old plastic bottles. The plastic from these bottles, after it’s been cleaned and shredded, is intended for reuse in the production of food packaging.

The advantage to sodium hydroxide (also known as lye or caustic soda) is that it’s extremely thorough; plastic bottles cleaned with it can be reused worry-free. Aside from cleaning plastic, though, it also leached fumes into the air, damaging the nearby washing lines in the process. Consequently, it didn’t take long before internal damage to various materials and objects at the plant was discovered.

Plastic centrifugal fans for the chemical industry – a perfect solution

Working with our customer, we decided to install plastic centrifugal fans for sodium hydroxide fumes in the plant. These welded fans, especially designed for the chemical industry, are completely chemical resistant. In total, we’ve supplied six different types, with two of the series’ largest featuring in the pictures.

These PP welded fans are two 900 mm RMVs, equipped with 6-pole 11 kW motors. Before delivery, we installed the plastic fans in an acoustic enclosure, equipped with flexible connections, so that the customer could easily install them on site. The overall dimensions of this acoustic enclosure were 2500 mm long, 1500 mm wide and 2500 mm high. Lastly, all centrifugal fans were equipped with a PP impeller, HDPE housing, and stainless steel mounting materials.

Do you need plastic centrifugal fans to extract sodium hydroxide fumes too? Get in touch!

Slingerland plastic centrifugal fans effectively prevent internal damage to your washing line’s components. At the end of the day, highly aggressive processes require robust, chemically resistant solutions.

Industrial fans for fiber drying

Why industrial fans?

Industrial fans contribute to a healthy working environment and are capable of moving large volumes of air at high negative pressures. Fans are used worldwide and are subject to international standards. These requirements are mainly focused on safety, energy use and fan performance. Our customer has very high demands, especially on safety.

Challenge

In this case the customer designed an installation to dry fibers and needed 140,000 m3/h of air. The temperatures could vary between – 10°C and + 150°C. In addition, they had to be able to build up a pressure of at least 6100 pascals. To guarantee the service life of the fans, they also had to meet very specific coating requirements.

Solution through fiber drying industrial fans

The fans are suitable for placement in an EX zone 22. The construction of the fans is extra reinforced to be able to run at high speeds. Up to 1670 rpm can be rotated. Our fans are equipped with an EX speed sensor to detect and limit the speed of the impeller. The impellers are equipped with counter blades to create under pressure at the shaft passage and also equipped with a graphite shaft seal.

The fans are constructed with a special housing division so that complete dismantling of the piping is not required during service interventions or when dismantling the fan. These fans are no less than 4.1 meters long, 2.7 meters high and 3.5 meters wide.

These very robust fans are equipped with an EX motor 400kW of the brand WEG including thermal protection PTC, insulated bearing shield NDE. The aforementioned fiber drying industrial fans were cleaned and degreased and then blasted. A first primer with Intergard 251 and then a 2 component coating Interthane 990. Mechanical guarantees had to be given about the welds and the strength of the impeller. We also provided the following reports: balance report, IFM sensor test, IIA conformity statement, data sheet of the coating including test report of layer thicknesses, FAT report, maximum speed test, installation and maintenance manual.

In short, a beautiful piece of craftsmanship!
