At Slingerland, we specialize in delivering high-quality, custom-made solutions for industrial applications. One of our recent projects involved providing a fully stainless steel fan, specifically designed to handle high temperatures of up to 350°C. This project was for a client who develops industrial machines for heating and pre-frying French fries.

To meet the extreme conditions, we designed a double-walled stainless steel fan. This structure includes a standard stainless steel housing, with 60 mm of thermal insulation added, and a second stainless steel housing welded around it. This construction ensures that the fan’s bearing block and motor are better protected from the high temperatures transported through the fan.

Due to the high temperatures, we deliberately avoided using a direct-drive fan, as it would significantly shorten the motor’s lifespan. Instead, we opted for a type 8 configuration, where a bearing block is placed between the motor and the stainless steel housing. This not only extends the lifespan of the fan but also reduces strain on the motor.

In consultation with the client, we chose stainless steel 316L for the motor mount, frame, and the entire fan housing. This was a critical choice, especially in the food industry, where stainless steel 316L is essential for its hygienic and corrosion-resistant properties. Additionally, the fan is equipped with a double-walled inspection hatch with thermal insulation to prevent heat loss.

For added efficiency and stability, the fan features heat-resistant stainless steel inlet and outlet flexible connections, as well as vibration dampers. This ensures vibration-free operation, even under extreme temperatures. The fan is powered by a 5.5kW 2-pole WEG motor, capable of moving 3800 m³/h of air at a pressure of 1356 pascal, even at 350°C.

Thanks to our expertise in stainless steel fans, our client was able to deliver a machine that meets the highest industrial standards. Slingerland is your partner for custom stainless steel fans designed to withstand the toughest conditions. Are you looking for a reliable solution for high-temperature applications? Industrial fans for high temperatures

Background

Industrial fans are used in a variety of applications. In this case we describe fans used in the industrial furnace industry. There are many different types of furnace applications, think of: Annealing furnaces up to 800°C, tempering furnaces up to 300°C, forging furnaces up to 1200°C. Furnaces can be heated electrically or with burners. In electric ovens, radiation elements or convection elements can be used. For burner ovens, natural gas, propane or oil burners can be chosen. Slingerland Techniek also offers many different solutions for this industry, such as plug fans for recirculation or centrifugal fans with special cooling fans or high-quality temperature-resistant paint.

Challenge

In this case, the customer designed a furnace installation to powder coat materials. The temperatures here could reach 350°C. They needed a total flow rate of 8300 cubic meters per hour and had to be able to build up a static pressure of 296 pascals.

Solution through industrial fans for high temperatures

In this case, we offered a belt driven centrifugal fan with a fully insulated housing. The design is belt driven so that the motor would definitely not come into contact with the extreme temperatures. The black coating is special for the high temperatures. Furthermore, the fan is equipped with a graphite seal and the impeller is manufactured from corten steel.
