18 Integrated centrifugal fans for the production of wood dust filters

Our integrated centrifugal ventilators, version 5, recently proved to be indispensable in the production process of dust filters. Several crucial factors had to be taken into account, and in such cases, there is no better point of contact than Slingerland! Read here how we successfully resolved a challenge for a satisfied customer with our exceptional industrial ventilators.

Sustainable centrifugal ventilators with low operating costs

With our centrifugal ventilators, we recently assisted a customer with a highly respected name in the production of dust filters. This company had over 70 years of experience in the agro, wood and recycling industry and offered innovative quality solutions for industrial dust extraction. The key factors? Unparalleled sustainability, high efficiency and low operating costs. With our integrated centrifugal ventilators, version 5, we could certainly deliver!

High-efficiency horizontal centrifugal ventilators required

In close cooperation with the customer, Slingerland searched for high-efficiency centrifugal ventilators that could also be installed quickly and efficiently. This saved time during the construction of their filter systems, namely when the horizontal centrifugal ventilators were mounted in the clean side of the filter. Easy to assemble, easy to maintain and high quality!

The solution? Version 5 centrifugal ventilators that are quick to install

The horizontal centrifugal ventilators we selected were equipped with B5 motors, which could be easily mounted on the ventilator housing with a flange. In addition, we equipped this version 5 centrifugal ventilator with a frame on the underside so that it could be easily mounted via the top of the filter.

The customer then provided its own cone, which connects the inlet of the integrated centrifugal ventilators directly to the filter section below the clean air side. There, the horizontal centrifugal ventilators could draw in the air through the filter sleeves, thus filtering the air from the process. In addition, these horizontal centrifugal ventilators were all frequency-controlled and of excellent quality.

Heat-resistant centrifugal ventilators for powder coating installation

Today, Slingerland’s heat-resistant centrifugal ventilators represent true added value in numerous industrial sectors. Did you know, for example, that these ventilators even play a major role in the application of professional powder coatings? Find out more about our recent contract for oven ventilators for a professional powder coating line here!

Why use heat-resistant centrifugal ventilators in powder coating?

How our custom centrifugal ventilators are beneficial in such a powder coating installation? As follows: A powder coating installation or powder coating line generally consists of one or more sub-processes, always starting with proper pre-treatment. In a market that is becoming increasingly demanding, a growing number of companies are coming to the conclusion that an additional process, such as KTL/ATL or galvanisation, is necessary. This is the only way to meet the high-quality requirements.

After this type of pre-treatment, it is always necessary to use a drying oven. Afterwards, an even layer of powder coating is applied in the powder room. This hardens in the curing oven into a wear-resistant, hard protective layer.

In other words, the powder coating process is a series of processes, each of which needs to be perfectly coordinated. In these various steps, it is therefore essential that the air management is correctly implemented. Slingerland’s centrifugal ventilators are efficiently deployed for this task!

High-quality heat-resistant centrifugal ventilators at a fair price

The customer who recently approached us for centrifugal ventilators was an OEM company that had been manufacturing powder-coating systems for decades. To regulate their air management, the company used various types of oven ventilators, depending on the customer’s quality requirements. They offered an affordable solution of a B-brand and a high-quality solution of a German A-brand. However, there was a demand for a mid-range solution, where the quality was comparable to that of the German manufacturer but the price was closer to that of a B-brand. And of course, at Slingerland, we were able to provide just that solution!

We supply various models of oven ventilators

This customer required various types of ventilators for its processes, which would provide the air management in the drying and oven processes. We therefore supplied the following ventilators to Slingerland:

  • 7 Oven ventilators for 20,000m3/hr at 400Pa total pressure at 200°C. These types are equipped with a 7.5kW 4-pole WEG motor.
  • 6 Oven ventilators for 6,700m3/hr at 458Pa total pressure at 200°C.

Each of these centrifugal ventilators had a heat-resistant, silicone-free coating. In addition, they were equipped with a cooling fan and a special mounting profile for mounting certain oven parts.

The unique feature of these heat-resistant centrifugal ventilators was that they were custom-made, so that the oven did not have to be modified. For the customer, this meant that he could keep his existing design and still use new, alternative ventilators. A great advantage!

Are you also interested in centrifugal ventilators for your powder coating process?

Are you also in search of heat resistant centrifugal or other ventilators for the air management in your company or for a specific customer? Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us: we will be pleased to discuss the possibilities with no obligation on your part!

Pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans for dust extraction

Optimise dust extraction at your company with high-quality centrifugal fans, such as those by Slingerland. Sometimes this is very much needed, as was the case in the situation below. Read all about how we made a different with our pressure surge-resistant fans for a large seed producer here.

Centrifugal fans for a better environment and better health

One of our customers, a specialised installer of suction installations for various industries, received a request from a producer of pesticides, seeds and other innovative solutions. Because the production of these seeds and pesticides was causing vast quantities of dust and hazardous vapours, there was a pressing need for a high-quality suction installation. The dust was particularly explosive: With dust class St1 and a Kst value of 109 bar m/s, it had a potential explosion pressure of 7.4 bar. Slingerland set out to find a bespoke solution and found it, as is often the case, in pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans.

Various versions of pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans.

We used these pressure surge-resistant centrifugal fans to compose a bespoke solution in various diameters. We will briefly clarify the 2 largest ones:

  • We opted for 2 centrifugal fans with a unit size of 1120, a capacity of 52750 m3/h and a pressure of 4200 pascal. These were fitted with a four-pole 90 kW motor of the brand WEG.
  • We integrated 1 centrifugal fan with a unit size of 1250. This centrifugal fan had a capacity of 64250 m³/h, with a pressure of 5200 pascal. This type was fitted with a four-pole 132 kW motor, once again of the brand WEG.

All centrifugal fans were executed with pressure surge-resistance up to 0.7 bar. The casings were fitted with strengthening ribs and adjusted plate thickness and the fan casings were fully welded. Finally, all these industrial fans were fitted with inspection hatches, condensate drainage and NBR shaft seals.

Stainless steel centrifugal ventilators for conveyor belt in the mushroom industry

Our stainless steel industrial centrifugal fans have recently been put to good use at a mushroom sector company with ambitions to fully commit to circular agriculture and sustainable processes. Slingerland held extensive consultations with the client in question to arrive at the perfect final solution. Continue reading to find out all about it.

Stainless steel centrifugal ventilators to contribute to circular agriculture

Slingerland’s stainless steel centrifugal fans have recently been put to good use to contribute to circular agriculture in the mushroom supply chain. Our client, already one of the most high-tech mushroom growers in the world, had the ambition to modernise its processes even further. Their aim is to grow mushrooms in a more environmentally conscious way, and they’re doing so by finding high-quality applications for the residual flow of the growing process via mushroom compost, in addition to generating their own energy. To achieve that ambition, the company started building a biomass plant and mushroom compost drying facility, at which our industrial fans play a crucial role.

Our centrifugal fans were used to build a mushroom compost drying facility

At this mushroom compost drying facility, our stainless steel centrifugal ventilators are used to work alongside a conveyor belt dryer. During this process, the mushroom compost is dried before being turned into pellets. These pellets can then be used as a sustainable substitute for artificial fertiliser, which completes the cycle in a really neat way! The energy for the drying facility is provided by a biomass plant that supplies heat and electricity generated from regional wood cuttings obtained from sustainable woodland management.

Which stainless steel centrifugal ventilators did we use exactly?

For this project, Slingerland supplied eight stainless steel centrifugal ventilators, each with a capacity of 150,000 m3/h at 1200 Pa at 60°C. These industrial fans come equipped with a 110kW six-pole WEG motor. The parts that come into contact with the airflow are made of grade 304 stainless steel, and the motor bracket, which is made of normal steel, has a special coating. The fans are manufactured to ATEX standard with EX inlet cones suitable for use in Zone 22.

The Class III stainless steel impeller is fitted with backwards-curved blades, including counter blades on the rear side to create negative pressure at the shaft passage and to reduce dust build-up at the shaft seal. In addition, these stainless steel centrifugal fans are fitted with a copper-ring shaft seal suitable for ATEX situations and resistant against high temperatures. The fans are also equipped with aluminium cooling fans for extra motor cooling.

Finally, two inspection hatches are fitted to the fan casing to allow for regular inspection and cleaning. An IFM EX speed sensor has also been fitted to provide extra protection against overspeed. The fan casing is manufactured in three sections for easier transport and is simple to maintain. An FAT test was performed upon delivery, including a running test at maximum RPM. We delivered the fans with balancing reports, material certificates, coating certificates and a sensor function test.

Stainless steel centrifugal fans for European pet food company

An industrial fan made from 304 stainless steel is the ideal solution if you’re struggling with poor extraction, especially in humid environments with higher temperatures. We have all kinds of fans on our range at Slingerland. Read here how we helped a Dutch company optimise its production process with industrial stainless steel fans.

Who are industrial stainless steel centrifugal fans suitable for?

304 stainless steel centrifugal fans are mainly used in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries and, as is the case here, the food industry. For example, one of our customers – an industrial processes service provision company from Eindhoven – recently received a request from a client. This innovative, leading European pet food company produces branded products for pets and private-label products for retailers. They wanted a solution for their steam tunnel extraction in the production process. Our customer came to us with this request, and together we looked for a suitable solution, which turned out to be our industrial stainless steel fan.

When to choose a stainless steel centrifugal fan instead of a plastic one?

What problem does this industrial stainless steel fan need to resolve, exactly? To prepare the pet food – specifically for dogs in this case – ground offal is cooked in steam tunnels. Highly contaminated steam vapours (approx. 90°C), which also contain fats, are released during this process, and therefore cannot be easily extracted. Our customer initially enquired about plastic fans, but we recommended they should opt for industrial stainless steel fans because of the higher temperatures and the humidity levels in the room.

We have two different types of stainless steel centrifugal fans

Once the decision had been made for industrial stainless steel fans, our customer installed extraction hoods above the pet food company’s steam tunnels. The vapours then had to be extracted before they could be removed by the hoods. We provided two different types of fans for this – supplying 3x BPR 352C with a 0.25kW WEG motor and 3x BPR 632C with a 1.50kW WEG motor. As you can see, Slingerland is all about versatility!

Waaruit bestaat een industriële centrifugaal ventilator?

Our centrifugal fans are manufactured entirely from 304 stainless steel and include:

  • an inspection hatch;
  • condensation drainage;
  • an aluminium cooling impeller for the 90°C

We’re also supplying:

  • a set of vibration dampers;
  • flexible connections for the inlet and outlet sides;
  • a set of stainless steel mounting profiles.

These industrial centrifugal fans are usually installed in a fairly dirty environment, so we provide an additional coating on the motors. In our warehouse, we also fit an isolating switch on the fans, including connection for the motors with an EMC cable and fittings. Delivered ready to plug in!

We’d be happy to see what our stainless steel centrifugal fans can do for your business!

Do you also struggle with inadequate extraction of troublesome vapours in your company? Then don’t hesitate to contact us for expert advice with no obligation. Centrifugal fans for extraction in a blasting and conservation hall

Need to find the best fan for extraction in a blasting and conservation hall? You’re in the right place with Slingerland! Read here how we helped a manufacturer of blasting and spraying booths with the ideal medium-pressure centrifugal fans, so their customer could carry out their work with ideal air management.

Our industrial fans regulate the air management exactly according to your wishes

We make a difference every day at Slingerland, with top-quality industrial fans. In this case study, a leading company in the Netherlands, which specialises in spraying XL products in mega coating halls, was looking for an all-in solution for blasting and spraying products. Products of this size are usually blasted and sprayed in separate halls, which of course means a lot of time is taken up with transportation.

The company in question made an enquiry to our client – a manufacturer of blasting and spraying booths, powder coating installations and pre-processing lines – who built a fantastic installation, exactly in accordance with their customer’s requirements. They used Slingerland’s efficient medium-pressure fans, designed specifically for industry, so that the entire air management system functions exactly as required.

Which fans are suitable for air extraction in a blasting hall?

This company’s challenge was to choose the right industrial fans, not just with the desired flow rate and pressure, but which were also explosion-proof. They also needed to be suitable for outdoor use.

The solution? Type TR 1121 directly-driven centrifugal fans. These high-pressure centrifugal fans have an extra external coating, which makes them 100% weatherproof. We’ve also added an extra layer to the centrifugal fans’ WEG motors, so they’re the ideal fans for extraction in a blasting hall!

These medium-pressure fans can each extract air at 32,000 m3/h, with a static pressure capacity of 4110 pascals at 15°C. With a power consumption of 47.6kW, we were therefore able to select a fan with 83.8% efficiency and a very low noise level. We ticked all the boxes one by one, resulting in a happy customer!

What kind of centrifugal fans do you need to optimise your operation? We can help you find out!

Are you also experiencing problems with the air management in your company, and you’d like to meet us with no obligation to see what we can do for your business process? At Slingerland, we’re happy to invite you for a personal consultation, in which we run through which centrifugal or other industrial fans would be suitable for your project. Offshore stainless steel fans for windmill park

Background

Our customer has extensive experience with HVAC systems for the offshore industry; an industry often dealing with extreme weather, tropical environments with high temperatures and humidity levels to extremely cold conditions with very low temperatures. In this case, it was a project in the North Sea. The fans that we supplied were used to cool the transformer rooms and ventilate the other rooms.

Challenge

At Slingerland, we work with our customer to develop tailor-made solutions for any type of vessel, construction or facility. We have extensive experience on board almost all types of ships. We are not afraid to think outside the box and include customer specifications in custom offshore fans, no matter how demanding.

Solution

In this case, a combination of free-running centrifugal fans and axial fans with both short and long housings was chosen. A number of models are made in ATEX.

Our axial fans were constructed from materials suitable for an offshore application. Housing for the fan and the motor foundation are made of stainless steel 316, pickled and passivated. The very solid and efficient plastic impeller is equipped with an anodized aluminum hub which is then provided with a maritime coating. Operating points for these fans vary from 70 m³/h, 150 pascals to 41,000 m³/h, 500 pascals. Diameters range from ø310mm to ø1000mm.

The fans with the size ø1000mm are intended for the main transformer room, they are provided with special reinforcements for horizontal installation on vibration dampers. All flange connections are customer-specifically produced according ISO15138, for easy connection to the ductwork. Fans are provided with stainless steel 316 mesh grille, mounting material in stainless steel 316, motor support thickness of 6mm, fan housing thickness of 4mm. Suitable for temperatures from -15°C to +50°C. The fans are equipped with motors varying between 0.12kW-4p and 15kW-4p in marine version with a special C5/CX coating system, stainless steel 316 shaft, space heaters, stainless steel 316 mounting materials, adapted terminal box, PTC sensors, and executed according to DNV-GL with mention on stainless steel type plate.

Industrial fans for fiber drying

Why industrial fans?

Industrial fans contribute to a healthy working environment and are capable of moving large volumes of air at high negative pressures. Fans are used worldwide and are subject to international standards. These requirements are mainly focused on safety, energy use and fan performance. Our customer has very high demands, especially on safety.

Challenge

In this case the customer designed an installation to dry fibers and needed 140,000 m3/h of air. The temperatures could vary between – 10°C and + 150°C. In addition, they had to be able to build up a pressure of at least 6100 pascals. To guarantee the service life of the fans, they also had to meet very specific coating requirements.

Solution through fiber drying industrial fans

The fans are suitable for placement in an EX zone 22. The construction of the fans is extra reinforced to be able to run at high speeds. Up to 1670 rpm can be rotated. Our fans are equipped with an EX speed sensor to detect and limit the speed of the impeller. The impellers are equipped with counter blades to create under pressure at the shaft passage and also equipped with a graphite shaft seal.

The fans are constructed with a special housing division so that complete dismantling of the piping is not required during service interventions or when dismantling the fan. These fans are no less than 4.1 meters long, 2.7 meters high and 3.5 meters wide.

These very robust fans are equipped with an EX motor 400kW of the brand WEG including thermal protection PTC, insulated bearing shield NDE. The aforementioned fiber drying industrial fans were cleaned and degreased and then blasted. A first primer with Intergard 251 and then a 2 component coating Interthane 990. Mechanical guarantees had to be given about the welds and the strength of the impeller. We also provided the following reports: balance report, IFM sensor test, IIA conformity statement, data sheet of the coating including test report of layer thicknesses, FAT report, maximum speed test, installation and maintenance manual.

In short, a beautiful piece of craftsmanship!

Built-in centrifugal fan

Dust nuisance is a common problem in industry. In recent years, air quality has been the subject of more and more discussion. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, a great deal of attention has been paid to particulate matter. In addition, we also hear a lot of noise about CO2 in the ambient air due to environmental issues. However, dust problems have been occurring in production environments for much longer.

Because of the increasing awareness and extra attention for dust problems, more and more filter builders have emerged in Europe. Because almost all filter builders innovate and want to build as compact as possible, Slingerland Techniek has come up with a solution for a horizontal version that can be mounted directly in the clean air space of the filter cabinet.

We already provide the fans with a discharge valve with bearing and counterweight. The underframe has been specially developed for easy mounting that is separate from the fan. This is a conscious choice so that first the frame can be easily mounted without the fan getting in the way when mounting. Then the fan can easily be lowered down to the frame. The inlet is completely airtight, making it the only thing that needs to be fitted.

What is the advantage of a built-in centrifugal fan?

Built-in fans cause significantly less noise nuisance than a separate fan installed next to a filter because the casing of the filter already absorbs a fair amount of noise. If the filter builder provides insulation on top of that on the inside of the filter box, you have a very low-noise system.

How do built-in fans work?

In most cases, multiple fans are placed in a filter so that they can be controlled in Cascade. This means that when the installation requires more power, a fan is added. As soon as more suction capacity is needed in the pipes this will be noticed by a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor will then send a signal to the electrical cabinet to switch on an extra fan. In this way a customer can optimally save energy and the installation is easy to assemble. This way, the filter is delivered to the customer ready to use, which simplifies the installation one by one.

What should you pay attention to when choosing built-in centrifugal fans?

You must ensure that each fan has a non-return valve on the outlet. It is important that no air can escape through the fans that are not rotating. This means that when a fan is switched off, the valve on the outlet must close. Slingerland Techniek has come up with some very nice standard solutions for this.
