Case studie

The Waaslandtunnel – also known as the Sint-Anna Tunnel – is Belgium’s oldest traffic tunnel. For 92 years, it has connected the left and right banks of the Scheldt River. Today, this iconic tunnel is undergoing a major renovation led by BESIX.

A crucial part of the works is the renewal of the ventilation system. During the renovation, the work zones must remain well ventilated to ensure a safe and fresh working environment for the construction crew.

The challenge
During the renovation, the existing ventilation system could not remain operational. Therefore, a temporary, reliable, and powerful ventilation solution was needed to extract both dust and harmful gases from the tunnel.

Our solution
At Slingerland Techniek, we collaborated closely with BESIX and provided a complete rental package of temporary ventilators:

Key specifications

  • 4 powerful BPR903A centrifugal fans
  • Airflow rate: 20,000 m³/h per fan
  • Robust construction, low noise, and perfectly suited for tunnel applications
  • Includes mobile frame
  • Includes electrical cabinet with frequency converter

Thanks to this setup, the tunnel was optimally ventilated, allowing the renovation work to proceed safely.

The result
A fresh, safe, and productive working environment for the BESIX crew.
With minimal installation effort, a maximum ventilation effect was achieved — exactly what Slingerland Techniek stands for.

Thanks to BESIX
A special thank you to the entire BESIX team for their trust in our solutions. We are proud to contribute to such an iconic Belgian infrastructure project.
