Hot-dip galvanised fans for mushroom cultivation

Our hot-dip galvanised fans recently proved to be the perfect investment to meet the high standards of mushroom cultivation. In this industry, it is crucial for the perfect circumstances to be created in order to facilitate optimal growth of crop. Read all about how our hot-dip galvanised centrifugal fans effectively helped out our client below.

Hot-dip galvanised fans for crop cultivation

The Slingerland hot-dip galvanised fans were recently deployed for mushroom cultivation. Growers of greenhouse crops and mushroom farms face complex ventilation challenges. Proper indoor climate control is key to their revenue. That is why fan systems in such growth installations must promote healthy and disease-free growth of crop under the most optimal circumstances.

Accurate control of temperature, air humidity, CO2-levels and air circulation is key. Combined with the need for low energy consumption and low maintenance costs, these requirements pose a serious challenge. Both the quality and performance of these ventilation systems are subject to strict requirements. Luckily, Slingerland is the place to be for high-quality industrial ventilation systems, in this case hot-dip galvanised fans.

Industrial, high-quality composting fans

Mushroom cultivation is a delicate process with many stages that requires perfect balance and timing from start to finish. Only then can successful results be achieved. Regular mushrooms need perfect circumstances and controlled growth to allow the farmer to meet market demand in time and at the lowest possible cost. The associated challenges depend on the installation setup and the farmer’s individual preferences. In addition to different process fans, the ventilation designs may contain functionalities such as heat recovery, ammonia washers, biofilters and even aroma treatment.

Fully galvanised centrifugal fans for mushroom cultivation

For this installer, we found the solution in a combination of axial and centrifugal fans. For the tunnel units, for example, we delivered a directly propelled centrifugal fan with a capacity of 40,000m3/h at 3500 pascal. The fan casing, chair and fan of the centrifugal fan are fully galvanised. In addition, the fan casing is fully welded and fitted with an inspection hatch and condensate drain. All fixing materials are galvanised as well. In addition, we supplied an axial fan with a motor capacity of 7.5kW and a capacity of 40,000 m3/h at 289 pascal. The fan blades are made of plastic with an impeller hub with a 38mm shaft hole of cast aluminium. The hub comes with stainless steel fixing materials. What sets this axial fan apart is that it is directly propelled, yet the motor remains outside the airflow.  We call this a bifurcated axial fan. Finally, Slingerland completely pre-wired the fans and fitted them with flexible connections.

Axial fans for freezing tunnel in Mexico

With no less than 96 large axial fans, we recently contributed to the construction of a pig slaughterhouse in Mexico. More specifically, it involved a freezing tunnel where carcasses would be stored. Our customer was looking for a bespoke solution for their construction and found it in the axial industrial fans by Slingerland. Read all about it below.

Axial fans for the slaughterhouse industry

Our axial fans recently proved to be the ideal solution for an important project. Our client, one of the world’s largest systems suppliers for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industry won a project in Mexico. The project? Build a large pig slaughterhouse including axial fans for a  freezing tunnel to freeze carcasses.

The challenge was to find large axial fans that could be wall mounted. After all, they would pull the air over a cooler block and blow it into the freezing tunnel with no less than 96 fans.

Axial fan casings assembled in our own workshop

Eventually, we found the perfect solution for this client which we completely assembled in-house. A metalworking company specialised in the flange rolling of casings up to 2400 mm in diameter produced axial fan casings on our specific request.

Composition of the axial fans in question

These axial fan casings had a thickness of 4 mm, an internal diameter of 800 mm and a length of 300 mm. The motor mount was entirely welded onto the casing and had a thickness of 6 mm. Everything consisted of standard steel that was hot-dip galvanised afterwards.

The fan casing was fitted with an inlet cone on one side and a flat flange on the other. Since all fixing materials were also hot-dip galvanised, the axial industrial fans were suitable for temperatures between -30°C and + 40°C.

The impeller of the axial fan was made of 3 profiled impeller blades of PAG and fully balanced according to G6.3. The impeller hub consisted of untreated cast aluminium and was fitted with a shaft hole of Ø28H7.

The motor of these hot-dip galvanised axial fans was a custom design as well. These axial industrial fans were fitted with a four-pole 4.5 kW motor of the brand WEG. This was a 3x460V 60Hz motor fitted with a B3 terminal box IP55 and insulation class F bearings.

The motor of these axial fans featured idle heating, PTC sensors for each phase and was resistant to the aforementioned operating temperatures. Finally, it boasted a Labyrinth Taconite shaft seal (for a temperature of -30°C), with Aeroshell 22/Mobil Polyrex EM low-temperature grease.

24X galvanised axial fans for a fishing vessel

Our axial industrial fans recently stole the show. Our client, one of the worlds largest systems suppliers for the food, drink and pharmaceutical industry won a project to fit cooling to a crab trawler and decided to ask Slingerland for a helping hand!

Hot-dip galvanised axial fans for optimal cooling

Our axial fans enabled us to deliver a significant contribution to the project. In many countries, fish and crab are some of the main sources of protein. To secure these important sources of food, a huge fleet of crab trawlers is hard at work out in various oceans. After the crab caught is hauled onto these trailers, it needs to be processed and frozen as soon as possible. As a result, proper cooling is essential, and our hot-dip galvanised axial fans play a major role in this.

Our client was on the lookout for axial fans suitable for operating temperatures between -33 °C to +5 °C for no fewer than three crab trawlers. It goes without saying that these industrial fans needed to be able to cope with the aggressive sea climate and be able to pass the necessary maritime inspections. With that in mind, we rolled up our sleeves!

Looking for custom axial ventilators for your project? We’ll help you out!

In the end, Slingerland was able to deliver exactly what our client was looking for. The axial fan casings in question were manufactured to our exact instructions with a panel thickness of 3 mm, an internal diameter of 500 mm and a height of 200 mm. The motor base for the axial fans was fully welded to the casing, with a thickness of 6 mm, and the complete fan casing unit was (fully) hot-dip galvanised.

In addition, a sheet steel inlet cone was fitted to one side of the fan, while a flat flange with a hole pattern was fitted to the other side. The fan impeller was made out of five profiled PAGI impeller blades, ensuring high efficiency and low noise. The hub was manufactured out of cast aluminium and the impeller was fully balanced according to G6.3. All fasteners were made of stainless steel, and our fans eventually proved suitable for temperatures ranging from -40 °C up to +40 °C.

Our industrial axial ventilators are suitable for all environments, including maritime

A special finish was required for the motor, as it needed to be suitable for continuous operation at -33 °C in a maritime environment. As such, we fitted our axial fans with a four-pole 2.2 kW motor by leading manufacturer WEG. The motor in question was a 3 x 460 V /60 Hz-IP55 version, suitable for environmental temperatures ranging from -40 °C up to + 45 °C. Finally, the motor came with additional options such as a PTC thermistor per phase, anti-condensation heating, a labyrinth seal, shaft and fastener materials made of Grade 316 stainless steel, an aluminium cooling fan, special lubricant and a C5 painting plan.

Of course, the necessary maritime inspections, such as RMRS and BV, were also arranged. We subsequently assembled the axial fans in-house and tested them extensively. The end result? All the pieces fell into just the right place.

Uiteraard werden ook de nodige maritieme keuringen voorzien, zoals RMRS en BV. Vervolgens assembleerden we de axiale ventilatoren in eigen huis en testten ze uitvoerig. De conclusie? Het plaatje klopte.

Stainless steel fan in the food industry

Background

Our customer develops machines for the food industry. In the food industry high demands are placed on the material properties of the parts and components.

Robust, corrosion-resistant and easy to clean materials are required, which do not change either the taste or the color of the products on contact with food. Corrosion-resistant stainless steel possesses these properties. Therefore, stainless steels such as 1.4401 or 1.4404 are widespread and popular materials in the food industry.

Challenge

A factory specialized in the development, production and marketing of high quality pet food for utility, sport and companion animals needed an extra production line for pet food.

In the production process, ingredients are mixed in mixers and cooked after which they are transported to a drying line to be cooled by air before they are packaged. In the past they used plastic drying fans with a standard steel coated motor. Because of the intensive cleaning cycles of the machines, the motors had to lead heavily and the lacquers started to come loose. These lacquers straightened out in the process and as a result they rejected the final product.

The customer was therefore urgently looking for a solution to this problem.

Solution

For this customer we have developed a fan completely made of stainless steel. So not only the fan housing,  bolts and nuts are in stainless steel. Also the motor is complete in stainless steel. A beautiful result that fully complies with today’s strict standards in the food industry.
